Job Description:

The Sous Chef helps to create nutritious, fresh and delicious meals and assists with the smooth operation of the Coal Creek Meals on Wheels kitchen. The Sous Chef is involved with every aspect of the kitchen, including preparation of the main entrees, side dishes, cold items, and baked desserts. This role reports to the Head Chef and is located in Lafayette, CO. Hours for this position are 5:30 am - 1:30 pm Monday-Friday. Very occasional evenings or weekends may be required.

Organization Overview
Since 1972, Coal Creek Meals on Wheels (CCMOW) has delivered high-quality, nutrient dense meals every weekday to individuals limited in capacity due to income, transportation, illness, age, and/or disability. Through this service, our clients are able to live independently and maintain a quality of life that is better than they would otherwise experience. Daily interaction between our volunteers and clients decreases social isolation.

In addition to daily weekday deliveries, CCMOW hosts an onsite dining program, serving up to 70 Lafayette-area seniors each weekday. Together with the onsite and delivery program, CCMOW provides 180+ meals a day serving the communities of Lafayette, Louisville, Superior, and Erie. CCMOW is a growing organization with highly engaged and dedicated staff, board members, and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities:

+Utilize a variety of cooking techniques to prepare nutritious and appealing meals in accordance with CCMOW’s policies and procedures, with the goal of creating an excellent product at a low cost.
+ Help modify recipes to meet the dietary needs of clients with particular restrictions.
+ Assists with planning menus in advance, using creativity to ensure variety and flexibility in incorporating donated food into the meals.
+ Helps maintain standards of sanitation and safety in food preparation and appropriate storage as set by the health department.
+ Participates in daily cleaning duties including dishes, equipment, and floors.
+ Assists in training and directing kitchen volunteers and staff.
+ Participates in regular staff meetings, trainings, and events planned by the Executive Director, and in the organization’s self-evaluation process, complying with any applicable improvement plans.
+ Performs other duties, as assigned - administrative, occasional special events, etc.

Job Requirements:

+ Experience in a high volume kitchen within the food service industry.
+ Demonstrated skill in preparing food in a nutritious, delicious, and appealing manner.
+ Effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to learn and incorporate new ideas into daily operations.
+ Passion for the organization’s mission and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with a dynamic team.
+ Must be able to comply with background check.

Physical Requirements
+ Must be free of communicable diseases.
+ Must be physically able to lift 25 pounds regularly, and up to 40 pounds occasionally, also able to bend and reach, stand for prolonged periods, and work in a fast paced environment.
+ Must demonstrate excellent personal hygiene and good overall health in order to fulfill job responsibilities.
